Singapore-style Fishball Noodles

Ingredients (for 2 servings) |
・1 pc. Choshi Hanpen 1 piece ・400g Shirataki Noodles (or Vermicelli) ・100g Bean Sprouts ・30g Japanese Leek (finely chopped) ・1 tbsp Dried Shrimp ・2 tsp Potato Starch (or Corn Starch) ・.5 tsp Ginger (grated) ・1 tbsp Chicken Bouillon Powder ・700ml Water ・2 tsp Japanese Soy Sauce ・1 tsp Chicken Oil (or Sesame Oil) ・1 tsp Sake (optional) For Garnish: ・Fish Sauce ・Pepper |
Directions |
①. Finely chop the Hanpen, place in a plastic bag and knead until smooth. ②. Add Leeks, Shrimp, Potato Starch and Ginger to the Hanpen paste. Mix well and divide into 8 equal parts, shape into balls, and set aside. ③. Blanche the shirataki noodles and drain. ④. Add Chicken Bouillon, Soy Sauce, Chicken Oil and Sake to the Water and bring it up to a boil. ⑤. Add Hanpen Fish Balls (from step 2), bean sprouts to the soup and boil for about 3 mins or until bean sprouts are tender. ⑥. Place the drained shirataki noodles (from step 3) in serving bowl, and pour in the soup, bean sprouts and Hanpen Fish Balls. ⑦. Add fish sauce or pepper to taste, and garnish with chopped cilantro. ●Cooking Tips● •Chicken oil can be substituted for Sesame oil to add richness to the flavor. •Add Chicken Bouillon or Soy Sauce to adjust the taste of the soup. •Lemon juice or Chives are nice complementary garnish options. •Shirataki noodles are loaded with dietary fiber that is often deficient in average diets. •Other ingredients of your choice (ginger, sesame, etc.) can be added to the fish ball mixture. |
Thai Style Gapao Fried Rice

Ingredients (for 2 servings) |
・1 pc. Choshi Hanpen ・1 clove Garlic (chopped) ・0.5 Onion (cut into 1cm squares) ・0.25 Red Bell Pepper (cut into 1cm squares) ・0.25 Yellow Bell Pepper (cut into 1cm sq.) ・130g Minced Pork ・1 tbsp Cooking Oil ・10 Basil Leaves ・2 Eggs ・300g Cooked Rice Sauce Ingredients: ・1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce ・.5 tsp Dou Ban Jiang (Chili Bean Paste) ・1 tsp Fish Sauce ・1 tsp Sake (optional) ・1 tsp Sugar ・.5 tsp Soy Sauce |
Directions |
①. Heat cooking oil in a frying pan, add garlic, onions and minced pork, and stir. ②. When raw pork is no longer visible, add hanpen paprika and all sauce ingredients to the pan Fry together until all ingredients are cooked. Tear Basil Leaves by hand and mix in quickly. ③. In another pan, heat some cooking oil and fry the two eggs. ④. Plate the rice, add the contents of Step 2, and top off with the fried egg to serve. ●Cooking Tips● •Basil adds a refreshing aroma to the dish, please adjust to taste. •In this recipe, by substituting part of the pork with Hanpen, this delicious one-plate meal provides the protein and vitamins your body needs with lower amounts of fat. |
Thai Style Shrimp Cakes
Add hanpen for mouth melting fluffiness!

Ingredients (makes 8 pieces) |
・1 pc. Choshi Hanpen ・150g Shrimp (peeled and de-veined) ・0.5 Egg (beaten) ・1 tsp Garlic (minced) ・2 tbsp Bread crumbs or Panko ・ Bread crumbs or Panko (for coating) ・ Cooking Oil For Garnish / Serving: ・Cilantro Leaves ・Tomatoes ・Sweet Chili Sauce |
Directions |
①. Mince the Hanpen & peeled shrimp together with a kitchen knife into a minced meat consistency ②. Add the Egg, Garlic and 2 tbsp Bread Crumbs and the hanpen-shrimp mixture into a bowl and mix well. ③. Divide and shape into 8 equal parts, coat in bread crumbs and fry in cooking oil (at 180oC or Medium-High Heat) until golden brown. ④. Serve with Cilantro, Cherry Tomatoes and Sweet Chili Sauce for dipping. ●Cooking Tips● ・Frozen shrimp can be used. When using shrimp with shells, remove the shells and de-vein before using. ・If using a food processor for mincing, be careful not to overdo it so as to keep some of the texture of the shrimp. ・Hanpen adds a softness and fluffy texture that the whole family can enjoy. The shrimp and hanpen contains a strong umami flavor, and can be savored on its own without any sauce. Enjoy the crisp outside and soft delicious shrimp cake with every bite. |
Taiwan style Fish ball soup♪ (Yu Wan Tang)

Ingredients (for 2 servings) |
・2 pc. Choshi Hanpen ・90g Celery (chopped) ・1 tbsp Potato Starch (or Corn Starch) ・pinch ground Pepper ・1 tsp grated Ginger ・600ml Bonito Fish Soup Stock ・.5 tsp Salt For Garnish / Serving: ・Sesame Oil Celery Leaves (roughly chopped) |
Directions |
①. Use a peeler to remove the strings of the celery stem and roughly chop into 1 cm squares ②. Finely chop the hanpen, place in plastic bag and knead until smooth ③. Add potato starch, pepper and ginger to the hanpen and mix well. Divide into 12 equal parts and shape into balls ④. Put soup stock in a pot, add the celery stems and hanpen fish balls, and simmer until celery stalks are tender. ⑤. Add Salt to taste and serve in a bowl. Sprinkle the chopped celery leaves and add sesame oil as garnish. ●Cooking Tips● ・The flavor of the bonito and hanpen in the soup combines to add complexity and depth ・This is a Taiwan-style soup with celery and fluffy fish balls made from hanpen. The fish balls have a softer texture and are easy to chew, while the celery adds a refreshing note and the sesame oil adds a richness to the dish. |
